RJA #3c: Developing Research Question

Negative psychological effects of war in Bosnia.

1. Who is mostly displaying the negative effects of the war?
2. What are the worst negative psychological effects?
3. When did the effects start emerging?
4. Where are the effects taking people? (general path in life)
5. How influential/negative was the war?
6. Why did the war happen?
7. Should the war be blamed for the current negative status?
8. Would the negative effects exist today if war never happened?

RJA #3b: Narrowing Research Topic

Psychological effects of war in Bosnia on young adults as my topic does need to be narrowed down. I am definitely interested in this subject but I am finding a lot of information on the internet which is overwhelming.

Due to all that information I took the books advice and drew my main topic in the middle of a paper and drew some interesting subtopics. Subtopics that emerged include: negative psychological effects, lack of emotional development, suicide rates, and lack of decision making skills.

RJA #3a: Exploring Research Topic

Chapter III was extremely helpful in the fact it made me concretely decides that this is my topic.

Kairos was perfect place to start because those questions helped me understand why I wanted to write about the mental effects of war in Bosnia. My motivation is to comprehend how my peers, loved ones, and other victims of that war are mentally affected today as young adults considering they still have to leave in a place where they experienced war horrors. My past is obviously influencing my topic pick, curiosity as well.

So far I've seen a few clips and short movies on YouTube. They seem to show a lot of pain, loss, and pride. I am looking forward to receiving books from my parent’s because that is where I want to continue my research next.

RJA #2b: Research Topic

The research topic in my case is "Mental/Psychological/Social Post War Effects in Bosnia". I chose it because it's personal and I have a lot of questions I am curious about. I left Bosnia right after the civil war and was sent away for a couple of years during the war. A lot of my childhood friends from Bosnia are on my Facebook account, and talking to them I seem to get completely opposite descriptions of the country's well being presently.

The information I have gathered is either extremely positive or negative. I am hearing the "war generation" is completely messed up. War generation refers to my generation... during war kids, post war adults. A lot of them are druggies, thieves, and the suicide rate is alarmingly high. On the other end of the spectrum I am hearing the country is thriving. Many new businesses are blooming, people have decent income, and many tourists from world around are visiting.

Every country has its good and bad, but I want to know how majority of the current population is doing. I would like to know if there are many natives still living in Bosnia and how many of them actually stayed during the entire war. I would like to know the suicide rate... the unemployment rate... overall quality of life. Maybe include number of mentally ill and war injury survivor rates. It feels like any info I find with a most current date (after 2000) will be post war information. I may need to compare pre vs. post war information throughout my research.

Thanks,
DZ

RJA #2a: Possible Topics

I am still stuck on this part a bit but here are some things I have been thinking about:

  1. Mental/Psychological/Social post war effects in Bosnia
  2. Three main contributing causes in obesity
  3. Changing family role expectations 20's VS today, in the US
  4. Hinduism - it's influence on qualify of life
